Toccoa Celebrates National Train Day

The City of Toccoa joined with Amtrak in celebrating the 2010 National Train Day on May 8, 2010 with a special event at the historic train depot in downtown Toccoa. Mayor Bob Troup, city officials, and citizens welcomed the train as it stopped in Toccoa on its way to Atlanta at 6:15 a.m. AM630 WNEG Radio broadcasted the event live.

Amtrak's Crescent Line travels through more states – including the District of Columbia – than any other Amtrak route. Offering daily service, the 1,377 - mile route travels from New York’s Penn Station to the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in 30 hours, stopping in 33 communities along the way.

In the Summer, shop for crafts and fresh baked goods at Sage Market and locally-grown produce at the Farmer's Market each Wednesday and Saturday in the Market building on Broad Street. At night, bring your chair to Sage Street and watch a film at Cinema on Sage.

In the Fall, take the preschoolers to gather candy from downtown businesses at the Costume Parade. You'll also want to enjoy the Harvest Festival, featuring unique hand-crafted items.

In the Winter, take in the sights and sounds of the holiday season at ChristmasFest, and be sure to catch some candy from the floats at the Christmas Parade, featuring Santa.
